MOMMY'S DAY

CATTLE BATTLE

Mommy's Day
Preparing a Sweet Surprise for Mom
Platform: PC
Engine: UE4
Duration: 2 weeks
Completion: Nov. 2017
Team Size: 5

Overview
Mommy’s Day is a short, but sweet, narrative-focused game where the player is a young boy helping his dad finish preparations to celebrate Mother’s Day before Mom gets home.
The player sprinkles a cake, draws a flower, and writes a Mother’s Day card. Each of these actions are based around a single simple mechanic of drawing, but are presented different contextually as making different items.

Role:
I was one of the game designers for Mommy's Day
Tasked with making a game with narrative, I collaborated with the team to quickly agree on a basic story that was in our scope before working out details with the other designer.
I contributed narrative and gameplay aspects such as a mini-game where the player makes a flower for mom.
I also highly suggested that we have a specific order for the mini-games; in particular, I wanted the most sentimental element, the card, to be last. This was because the mini-games were one of the few elements that could help create some emotional and narrative build-up to the end.

Besides that, I also wrote the dialogue script for the voiced lines, and used an HUD widget to build a functional start menu and credits screen. Buttons are anchored properly on the menus, so the positions are consistent no matter the size of the screen.

Cattle Battle
Intense Battle for Cows between Alien and Farmer
Platform: PC
Engine: Unity
Duration: 2 weeks
Completion: Sept. 2017
Team Size: 4

Overview:
Cattle Battle is a 2-player PvP game where the players, as an alien or farmer, try to get as many cows to their goal they can before time runs out. Players can stun each other with their unique projectile weapon, but they have to be careful. The cow runs fast and slips away from the player if they hold it too long without scoring. It also leaves some cow pies that can slow down whoever steps in it.
There is a total of three levels. Two of the three levels have some quirks that players can look forward to.

Role:
On the team, I served primarily as a producer and designer.
I first coordinated a team brainstorm, and established the initial concept of "aliens abducting cows".
As a designer, I made the design choice to use a top-down perspective instead of making a side-scroller like we initially planned, and designed gameplay aspects like the cow pies (speed down drop).
Additionally, I wrote the script for the voiced lines said by the player characters (alien and farmer).
